Alejandro Almanza Pereda

Taking the lid off

Water

This photo was taken underwater. The object that you see were arranged underwater and the water keeps them in place. Alejandro had made a lot of these photos and he has also made some underwater videos.

Fun fact

Alejandro found out some really fun facts through his underwater photography. Did you know that apples float, but pears sink? You can see it for yourself. LAM also has an underwater video by Alejandro. It is also in this room. Can you spot it?

Inspiration

The underwater photographs that Alejandro takes are based on classic sixteenth and seventeenth century still lifes. He put his own spin on them, by photographing them underwater. It makes them look like they were taken a long time ago. Because of the black and white color they have a haunting beauty to them.
