Stilleven met kom, vaas en vruchten

In a new light

The fruits have been painted in the style of an art movement called "Cubism" which reduces shapes to lines and surfaces, which gives all the shapes a squarish appearance. Cubism allows the viewer to see things in a new way.

The artist

From 1896 until 1901 Jan studied in the German city of Cologne. Afterwards he worked in Paris, just like Pablo Picasso who is the pioneer of Cubism.

Old

This painting is from 1922. Imagine, it was painted before WWII. It is one of the oldest artworks in the LAM collection.
