Prop-Angelo
Deceptive
It might look like a painting or a photograph. But it deceives you, it is actually a video.
The bigger story
This work is part of the experimental film 'Temps Mort/Idle Times'. The film is about a family caught up in a centuries old family drama. The story is spread out over several works, every one depicts a single scene in the larger story. Each of the works has an interactive element, pulling the viewer into the story.
Who is Angelo?
'Prop-Angelo' refers to one of the characters in the larger story of 'Temps Mort'. It is the prop that belongs to one of the members of the family being depicted in it. It tells us something about Angelo’s personality.
We all know that person
“Do you know that person, the one that’s cunning and kind of dodgy? He doesn’t stand out but is silently witnessing everything. That is that snake,” says Alex. He is slick, with a personality like a slippery snake.
The artist
Alex is a Belgian artist who works with the borders between film and painting investigating the possibilities of interactivity.
Neat or messy?
