What's in a name

The title of this work is Our Lady of Nourishment. Referring to Mary, mother of Jesus.

Transformation

George has transformed all sorts of kitchenware into bodily beings. He gave them human forms, like breasts, belly, bottoms and genitals.

Student/teacher

George taught at the Willem de Kooning Academy, a Dutch art academy in Rotterdam. His curriculum was about touch and the possibility of perception of touch. Through the years George had many students. One of them is Joep van Lieshout, a famous Dutch sculptor. His studio created “Cow”, the large red sculpture in our garden.
