Material

This painting wasn’t just made with paint, but also with thread and pieces of fabric. There is embroidery on this canvas. Michael studied fashion at the Rietveldacademie in Amsterdam, but he realized the world of fashion wasn’t for him. One day he decided that he wanted to start painting. There was no real reason behind this, he had never painted before. Michael just made the decision and did it. But he never let go of his fashion roots. He incorporated these roots into his new practice as a painter.

According to Michael the home is the only place where we can be ourselves completely. He thinks it is the most important place in our lives. This is why houses and homely settings can be seen throughout Michael’s oeuvre.

Michael is a Dutch lives and works in England. He has a beautiful studio in London.
