Kuhlschrank

This painting is called Kuhlschrank. That means fridge in German. The artwork is part of a series about night shops in Germany. These stores are called Spätkauf. People can buy beer, cigarettes or other items here. A night shop is slightly more expensive than a regular supermarket. They can also be found in Dutch cities. Shop shelves and products are often the subjects of Luca.

Luca bases most of his art on photographs that he takes. His photos work like a note, things that he wants to keep in mind.

One of the first things Luca does when he arrives in a new place is to go to the local supermarket. "When I walk into a supermarket, I have the feeling that I am visiting a Wunderkammer.”

Luca was born in Rome, Italy, and lives and works both in Berlin and Groningen, The Netherlands.
