Dolf Bausch

De Marktman

Like magic

Dolf painted this work in a style called magical realism. Paintings that belong to this movement depict reality but with elements of the magical. Something is always a bit strange when you look at them. What things can you discover that make this painting just a little bit weird?

Past life

The previous owner of this work bought it directly from the artist, Dolf. He became friends with Dolf in the seventies after he went to his house to remove Dolf’s old boiler and install a new one. The installer saw this painting on Dolf’s easel at the artist’s in house studio. He loved it straight away, as it reminded him of his childhood helping out his grandparents working on the market. Sadly the painting had already been sold to someone else. Some time after first seeing the painting the installer was told by Dolf’s wife that an arrangement was made with the buyer and that he could buy it. Through a payment plan he was able to purchase the work. It hung above his television at home for years. His children loved it. After he moved to a smaller house the installer had this painting stored away up in his attic for years before eventually selling it to us.
