Yuichi Hirako - Cropping 13
The dark forest

In Western culture the forest is usually portrayed as a dark place. In Japan however it is a sacred place. In some old Japanese religions plants are worshipped as holy symbols. One of these religions is Shintoism.

Nature/culture

Yuichi is fascinated by man and nature. In his art he plays with their relationship. He gives people tree trunks or plants as faces. It is like he is bringing together nature and culture.
