A second chance

Tja didn’t always want to be an artist. When she was young she would draw a lot, but when she got older she stopped. She did go on to study something creative, fashion at the art academy in Utrecht. It was there that she rediscovered her passion for drawing.

Meditation

According to Tja the repetition in her drawings makes for a meditative experience. It can give us a sense of safety. You know what is coming. But Tja breaks through our feeling of safety by repeating something that is a little bit creepy.

What do you think?

Tja doesn’t talk about the meaning behind her works. She knows what they mean to her and prefers that people think of their own meaning. Tja has made us think about what this work means to us. One of our colleagues was thinking about how this work might be saying something about how people sometimes regurgitate other peoples opinions instead thinking critically for themselves. What do you think about when you see this work? What does it mean to you?
