Cocina
This kitchen comes straight from the imagination of Argentine artist Nina Kovensky.
What do we see?
There is a lot to discover in this work of art. Did you know that it consists of a mirror and a tea towel? Nina scratched the drawing open on the back of the mirror. She placed an old tea towel in it, while keeping an eye on the yellow to be visible through the egg. In this way, she gives the scratched drawing colour.
Scratches
Nina makes a complete series of works of art in which she works with mirrors and glass. She also made security cameras from mirrors. Keep an eye on yourself.
Philosophising
The beauty of a mirror is that the world does not stop within the frames of the frame. No matter how you stand in front of it, the space only becomes larger. This entire museum space becomes part of the work of art. Philosophically beautiful, don't you think?
Looking into the eyes
Mirrored surfaces often draw your eye to the reflection first. Nina challenges you to leave yourself, even beyond theory, and to formulate your eyes on the drawing.
Safe Place
The series this artwork is part of is called Safe Place. When we feel vulnerable, we prefer to return to these safe places. This can be a space (the kitchen), but also a film that you have seen often or a friendship counts as a safe place to return to. To which place, book, person, film or piece of music do you like to return for safety?
The artist
Nina Kovensky (1993) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She obtained her degree in visual arts at the Casa Escuela de Arte, and in the years that followed in Córdoba she studied everything about the fundamental kitchen. She is also a DJ, art critic and exhibition curator.
