If you had to give this artwork to someone as a present? Who would you give it to and why?
This artwork is hung in a kind of bold way, almost as if it has nothing to hide. Because of the hole, you are able to realise that the image doesn’t have absolute power. The artwork is pierced. A hole had to made in it in order to hang it. Harmen aims to give his own perspective on images that are normally shown, to make them “less holy” and more receptive of different possibilities.
For a long time the empty space of Yves Klein was one of Harmens favourite artworks. This empty space reminded him of the classroom he spent his Sundays as a kid.
